Description:
Musical Theater - Philosophy - Music theatre performers are often not given the credit they deserve for the complexity of the craft they pursue. They must be well-trained in singing, acting, and dancing, and in order for those skills to work most effectively the performer must understand how the impulse to communicate provides both the energy and inspiration for all three of these skills. This workshop will show them how to "put it all together".
Theatrical Design - The costume design workshop will give high school students the opportunity to interpret plays through character analysis and creative design. Practical exercises will teach script interpretation, costume research, figure drawing, and rendering techniques.
Theatrical Backstage - Theatrical Backstage will give high school students the opportunity to learn the basics of stagecraft, the fly system and use of lighting and sound systems. Practical exercises will teach basic set construction, lighting and sound techniques.
Professional Workshop for High School Drama and Music Teachers - Teachers will have the opportunity to see how music theatre material and dramatic audition material is taught to students and how each student can best prepare for an audition - whether it be for a specific production or for the university the hope to attend.
