Description: Summer Programs at Stoneleigh-Burnham School
Stoneleigh-Burnham School offers a number of residential summer programs. Based on campus, the programs make use of our outstanding facilities and are directed by Stoneleigh-Burnham faculty. Our summer offerings emphasize the development of confidence, the acquisition of skills, and the discovery of new talents and abilities. They adhere to the same high standards set at Stoneleigh-Burnham during the academic year.
Stoneleigh-Burnham provides first-class facilities for academics, including the fine and performing arts. The athletic complex offers an outdoor pool, a gymnasium, a fitness center and five tennis courts. Students live in the well-equipped dormitories of the school and enjoy the full services of the school's health center and dining hall.
The Sorvino Dance Intensive –
The Sorvino Dance Intensive is designed to give young dancers training with professional instructors in a beautiful, fun-filled location with a maximum of twenty-four students. Campers come to refine technique and prepare performance pieces. All Campers get a broad understanding of various styles while experiencing Western New England's rich dance offerings and artists. The Dance Camp is under the direction of Juilliard graduate and Stoneleigh-Burnham Dance Director Ann Sorvino.
A Voice of Her Own – A Public Speaking and Debate Experience –
Through its continued commitment to the education of young women, Stoneleigh-Burnham School presents a residential Public Speaking and Debate Camp. Stoneleigh-Burnham's primary goal is to honor girls' voices, intellects, and passion for learning.
The Paul Bassett Softball Academy –
The Paul Bassett Softball Academy, under the direction of Paul Bassett, presents an opportunity for girls ages 12-16 to improve their skills as hitters, fielders, and pitchers. Experienced coaches offer instruction to participants during three daily sessions. With a player to coach ratio of 6:1, instruction stresses fundamentals and techniques to augment players' skills. Skills that will be addressed include – hitting, bunting, base running, fielding, pitching, sliding and strength training. There is also a competitive schedule of night games that culminate in the Thursday night games that follow the family BBQ.
OwlBridge – OwlBridge is a three-week academic preview/review program for girls entering grades 8-10 who wish to strengthen their academic performance in a boarding school setting. A student may enroll in either the Mathematics and English section, or the English as a Second Language section. Instruction in mathematics and English is tailored to the specific needs of each student. The math program solidifies student understanding of both pre-algebra and first-year algebra. The English program pays equal attention to language and literature skill development. Folded into both programs will also be specific instruction in academic and organizational strategies that cultivate efficient study habits and the appropriate use of relevant technology.
